The Texas State chapter of Invisible Children
The Invisible Children Texas State organization is focused on providing awareness to students to promote immediate and national involvement in Uganda, Africa. Uganda suffers from a civil war crisis, and by holding information sessions, support opportunities and fundraisers this organization helps the children in Uganda affected by the war.
Kim Rinehart started the Invisible Children organization in spring of 2008, but the group was not recognized as an official organization by Texas State until the fall of 2008. When Rinehart started the Invisible Children organization, there were eight members. In the past three years, the group has doubled in size and now has over 20 members.
History of the War in Uganda:
The civil war in Northern Uganda has been on going for the past 23 years. The Government of Uganda has been trying to protect its citizens from the Lord’s Resistance Army and the Allied Democratic Forces, two rebel militias, who have been on a mission to overthrow the Ugandan government for years. The LRA rebel movement began when leader Alice Auma believed the Holy Spirit told her to overthrow the government for being unjust to the Acholi people. The LRA has responded to the government’s actions by abducting children and forcing them to participate in their movement. These children in Africa have grown up in fear, without knowing peace.
Mission Statement:
The invisible Children organization is committed to seeking sustainable solutions to foster an environment that encourages peace. We are supporting and equipping a generation ravaged by war so that they can finally know peace.
